overview

The clinic provides inpatient and outpatient services. The treatment team providing inpatient care is composed of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, recreational and occupational therapists and research professionals. In general, the goal of treatment is to normalize weight and disturbed eating patterns. Patients participate in a variety of groups on the unit which aim to address distorted cognitions and behaviors and help them develop skills to use after discharge from the hospital (see sample schedule). Outpatient therapy may involve participating in a treatment study evaluating a medication or psychotherapy, or may commence upon completion of research participation. These sessions typically involve cognitive-behavioral therapy with medication management if appropriate.

Patient Bedrooms

Patients' sleeping rooms (double- or single-occupancy) offer privacy, and include semi-private bathrooms. All are well-lighted and air-conditioned. Many provide panoramic views of the Hudson River.

Patients are encouraged to add personal items as appropriate. Special arrangements are made to accommodate clinical needs as prescribed by a physician.

Patient Recreation

One of the amenities provided to our patients is a secure landscaped park which affords sweeping views of the Hudson River and the Palisades.

As clinically appropriate, staff accompany patients to the park which is connected to the hospital building via a secure bridge.

Off-site field trips are organized by the Department of Recreational and Occupational Therapy.
