This multi-site study assesses psychosocial aspects of adults who undergo bariatric surgery. A second study is analyzing the relationship between body weight and cognitive functioning before and after surgery.
Center for Adolescent Bariatric Surgery (CABS)
This longitudinal study examines whether pre-surgery psychological factors affect surgical outcome and long-term psychological functioning.
Development of an Eating Behavior Laboratory
The purpose of this study is to examine the eating behavior, meal-related perceptions and meal-related hormones in overweight adolescents, normal weight adolescents and overweight adolescents undergoing bariatric surgery.
The Effects of Medication on Eating Behavior
This study examines the effects of a medication, Buproprion SR or Wellbutrin, on eating patterns, psychological processing, and brain functioning in a population of healthy overweight men and women. Participation will involve two overnight stays in a Residential Laboratory setting, where subjects will be asked to complete standardized meals, computer tasks, and an MRI. Participants can earn up to $750 and will be offered 6 months of free weight-loss treatment at the conclusion of the research procedures.
